Kristiania has Erasmus+ agreements with nearly all our partner universities in the EU. To embark on an Erasmus+ exchange and receive a stipend, there are several steps you must go through to be granted funding. You must also read the Erasmus Student Charter, which informs you of the rights and obligations you have as an Erasmus student.

  1. Apply for an Erasmus+ agreement: You apply for exchange through Søknadsweb within the application deadlines of March 1st for exchange in the fall semester and September 15th for exchange in the spring semester. There are separate application deadlines for short-term mobilities.
  2. Nomination for exchange: The International Office nominates you to the institution you've been accepted to, and you follow their instructions to become a full-fledged exchange student.
  3. Learning Agreement (LA): In collaboration with the host institution and your programme coordinator, you must determine which courses you will take during your exchange. Most institutions use the Online Learning Agreement. A Learning Agreement confirms that the courses you take during the exchange can be recognized as part of your degree when you return home. An LA must be signed by you, the programme coordinator at Kristiania, and the coordinator at the host institution to ensure that the courses are approved and align with the curriculum offered during the exchange.
  4. Grant Agreement (GA): Once you have the dates for your exchange period in your LA, the International Office uses this information to calculate the amount of your stipend. You will then receive a Grant Agreement to fill out with your bank account details, insurance information, and a signature confirming that you have read all the rights and obligations you have as an Erasmus+ student.
  5. Stipend Payment:

The Erasmus stipend is intended to cover some of the extra costs you incur while studying abroad but does not finance the entire stay. The amount you receive depends on where you travel and how many days you are on exchange or on practical training.

The stipend is awarded for the actual exchange period:

Start date: The first day you must be present at the host institution for academic reasons, such as the first day of classes or a welcome event.

    End date
: The last day you must be present at the host institution for academic reasons, such as the final day of exams.

The host institution must confirm the start and end dates. If you travel to the host country earlier than necessary, for example, to attend language courses, you will not receive a stipend for that period. The same applies if you stay in the host country after the academic period ends.

    What happens if I withdraw?

If you withdraw from the Erasmus exchange before two months have passed, you must repay the entire stipend. If you withdraw after two months, you can keep the stipend for that period but must repay the stipend for the period you did not complete. It is important to inform the agreement holder and the International Office if you terminate the stay, regardless of the reason.
In case of withdrawal due to illness, you can apply for exemption from repaying all or part of the Erasmus stipend. This must be documented with a medical certificate. Send an email to utveksling@kristiania.no.

How and when is the Erasmus stipend paid out?

The stipend for long-term exchanges is generally paid out in two installments, with the first payment equal to the total amount minus 100 EUR. The remaining 100 EUR is paid out after the exchange period is over and all documentation has been submitted. For short-term exchanges, the full amount is paid at once.
  6. Evaluation and Final Report: When you have completed your stay, you must upload the Confirmation of Stay, signed by the coordinator at the host institution, and your exam results in Studentweb to have them credited towards your ongoing degree at Kristiania. To receive the final 100 Euros, you must also complete the final report from EUSurvey.
