Background

Synne Tollerud Bull is head of department and professor of media art at Kristiania University College. She holds a Ph.D. in media aesthetics and an MA in art history from the University of Oslo, and an MFA and BFA in New Genres from the San Francisco Art Institute, USA. She is a former professor at the Oslo Academy of the Arts and Nordland Academy of the Arts and Film and has initiated several international networks, exhibitions and conferences.

Bull is currently leading the research projects Urban Ecologies (2020-2023) and Media Seas of the High North Atlantic (2021-2023). Publications include Urban Images: Unruly Desires in Film and Architecture (Sternberg Press, 2011) and Screen Space Reconfigured (Amsterdam University Press, 2020).

Bull formed the artist duo Bull.Miletic together with Dragan Miletic in San Francisco in 2000. They exhibit internationally and have won many awards and scholarships. The work "Ferriscope" (1893-2020) received The Excellence Award at the 2020 Japan Media Art Festival. The work is part of the artistic development project Proxistant Vision which is presented at the Museum of Craft and Design in San Francisco, Nov. 2022 - Mar. 2023
